“Every artist has to go where the people are.” The spirit of the classic song remains more alive than ever in the Unicamp Symphony Orchestra, which returns to the stage of the university’s Arena Theater this Monday (2), in a free show, starting at 19 pm. On Tuesday (3), at 20 pm, it is the turn of the “Losso Netto” Municipal Theater, in Piracicaba, to host the performance, also open to the public. The concert “Milton, Heart of Brazil”, is filled with the immortal works of singer and composer Milton Nascimento, which have received new arrangements especially for these performances. In April of last year, Milton received the title of Doctor Honoris Causa from Unicamp.
The Orchestra will be conducted by maestro Cinthia Alireti, who also serves as artistic director. Using culture as a bridge for integration and transformation, the concerts feature the participation of teachers and students from the Popular Singing course at the Institute of Arts (IA) of Unicamp.

The vocal direction and script are by Professor Regina Machado, a faculty member of the IA's Music Department. The arrangement coordination – developed by graduate students in Music – is by Paulo Tiné. José Alexandre on double bass, Leandro Barsalini on drums, and Theo Alves on guitar are the guest instrumentalists. The performances are part of the celebration of Unicamp's 60th anniversary.
“It is the meeting of European tradition, based on the orchestra, with the rich diversity of great Brazilian popular music. The show also values the integration of the academic community with society. Everyone is invited to participate. It is an open door for all who want to live this experience,” says the professor.
The performances are part of the Palco DCult project, a cultural initiative organized by the Directorate of Culture (DCult), an agency of the Pro-Rectorate for Extension, Sports and Culture (Proeec).
