Unicamp is among the best 15,5% of universities in the world, ranking shows

The 2026 edition of the QS WUR assessed 8.467 universities from 106 countries, an increase of 81,5% compared to the 2025 edition.

Unicamp is ranked among the 15,5% best universities in the world, according to a reputation ranking released on Wednesday night (18) by QS WUR (World University Ranking) 2026. Next to the THE Rankings, QS WUR It is one of the two most important international university rankings in the world, with a high impact in academic and non-academic circles.

The 2026 edition of the QS WUR evaluated 8.467 universities from 106 countries, an increase of 81,5% compared to the 2025 edition, when 4.663 institutions were considered. Of the total number of universities, 1.501 institutions worldwide were classified, including 24 Brazilian ones.

Unicamp's position in QS WUR 2026 is 233 in the world ranking, ahead of 84,5% of the 1.501 ranked universities. This position is associated with an overall score of 52,1, on a scale of 0-100.

In relation to previous rankings, Unicamp's position went from 232 in the 2025 ranking to 233 now in 2026. According to Professor Renato Garcia, from the Pro-Rectory of University Development (PRDU), the slight drop of one position in the general ranking was due, in large part, to the strong growth in the number of universities participating in the ranking in 2026.

To compose the 2026 ranking of QS WUR nine indicators were taken into consideration: academic reputation, citations per teacher, business reputation, employment results, student/teacher ratio, teacher internationalization, student internationalization, international research network and sustainability.

Unicamp performed excellently in the academic reputation ranking, with a score of 81,7. This performance places it in 91st position among the universities with the best reputation worldwide.

Unicamp also performed very well in the Sustainability indicator, where it obtained a score of 79,5. This is equivalent to the position of 180, with strong growth in relation to the previous year, when it obtained a score of 65.9 and occupied the position of 236.

In Business Reputation, Unicamp's score was 50,9, placing it in 247th position. In the International Research Network category, it was ranked 265th, with a score of 84,5. In the Citations per Teacher indicator, the University rose from a score of 24,9 to 37,2.

The academic indicators involved the analysis of 19,8 thousand scientific publications and around 200 thousand citations. To compose the reputation rankings, 151 thousand indications from academic researchers and 100 thousand corporate indications were compiled.

“One of Unicamp’s strengths is its reputation in Brazil and abroad. This strength can be seen in its ranking among the top 100 universities in the world with the best academic reputation,” says Garcia.

“Unicamp has been investing significantly in several areas in recent years, but it is important to highlight the investments in the area of ​​sustainability. These investments translate into excellent performance in the sustainability indicator of the QS ranking,” said the Pro-Rector of University Development, Professor Fernando Sarti.
