Security worries Brazilians: will PEC be the solution?

Public safety is the biggest concern for Brazilians, according to a recent survey conducted by the Genial/Quaest institute. 29% of respondents said that crime is the biggest problem in Brazil.

The survey also showed that, for 70% of those interviewed, violence and public safety are national problems. A proposed amendment to the Constitution on the subject (PEC 18/2025) is currently under discussion in the National Congress.

The objective is to change the organizational structure of the country's public security forces in order to promote greater integration between the federal government and the states in the fight against organized crime.

The Analisa program discussed the topic with researcher Gustavo Blum, who works at the Laboratory of Regional Geography and Geography of International Relations at the Institute of Geosciences (IG) at Unicamp. Blum studies crime-fighting policies.
