Pagu and the Laboratory of Anthropology of Religion organize a webinar to discuss the direction of the church on the global stage
With the end of one pontificate and the beginning of another, Catholicism returns to the center of public debate. The election of a new pope reignites discussions about the direction of the church on the global stage. In Brazil, this context is intertwined with the growth of evangelical churches and the active presence of Catholic sectors in political disputes, raising questions about the role of the Catholic Church in democracy, in the defense of human rights and in political tensions in the country.
To reflect on this changing scenario, the Center for Gender Studies (Pagu) and the Laboratory of Anthropology of Religion (LAR) will hold, on the May 20, at 14 pm, via Google Meet, the webinar “The Direction of the Catholic Church in Brazil: politics, democracy and rights”.
The event will bring together researchers from different generations who have been studying Catholicism in Brazil.
